Southpaw (no, not the boxing movie of the same name starring Grade-A-Beefcake Jake Gyllenhaal) is a punk rock band that came together sometime in the year 2013. The band, hailing from Michigan, decided to breathe new life into a scene that’s losing its steam or “washed-up” as they’d say. They’re dubbed as punk more often than not, but the group isn’t afraid to dip their toes into different areas within the genre like pop punk, metal, and grunge. With Southpaw being a three-piece made up of lead guitarist/vocalist Brandon Eikenberry, Christian Adame on bass, and Joe Keck on drums, it’s easy to make a quick comparison to another world famous three-piece punk band, Blink-182. Upon first listen, Southpaw sounds like they could’ve been a band on the come up in the mid 2000s. Once you listen a little closer they tend to hit a little harder, even incorporating elements of metal into their record; something that strictly pop punk bands tend to shy away from. Since they’ve been going at it, the band has performed amongst veterans like A Day To Remember, La Dispute, and even Less Than Jake.
